Using a high power (100W) 12V DC USB-C plug it charges my bigger MacBook Pro with its high power charger requirement.

That’s what I need it for.

IMO Better to charge it DC than AC for longer Jackery battery life

With the 100 W solar panel, on a sunny day, it can last a long long time for my use.

Wish it had two 110 outlets. The smaller 300 wt version does.
I bought this to unable me to remote camp for long periods of time.

Using a 12 volt adapter I can run my CPAP machine 5 -10 hour nights/out recharging. I can recharge in a day with the 100wt solar panel I also purchased.

I did a little test with the 24″ fan in the pic. I bought this to power the fan for outdoor use.

The ambient temp that the test was conducted was 75 degrees F and the fan drew 94-95W running full speed. The Jackery 500 Explorer was fully charged to 100%.

After 2 hours the power was at 65%
After 3 hours the power was at 46%
After 4 hours the power was at 28%
After 5 hours the power was at 9%

Stopped test after 5 hours.

I usually lose my electricity for several days when a tropical storm moves through my area, and I can’t buy a generator at this point, so I was very pleased to find the Jackery portable power stations. The 500 will let me keep a fan running through the night so I can sleep, or let me watch TV for a while,, or power the mini cooler I plan to buy so I can keep at least some of my refrigerator/freezer foods cold. It’s a beautiful product that I hope not to have to use!!! Let me mention the design and quality of the packaging! I have never seen such beautiful packaging, including the outer box it comes in! It makes me think that the company really cares about quality. Next: the solar charging panel!

This is super light weight, it charges fast, and last a long time…I don’t know what I would do without it. It only takes about 25% to fully charge my laptop AND watch a two hour movie. Charging my cell phone almost seems to take nothing from it, but obviously it does.

I love my Jackery 500. I bought mine to use when I go hunting and offroading. I use it mainly to plug in an Iceco 12 volt refrigerator, but found it to be an indespensible item. I charge my camera and drone batterries while out and about. For me the charge will last about 2 days away from home, but I have recently purchased the Jackery Solar Saga 100 Watt solar panel to charge it while I’m out hunting. I have never had a problem having enough power for my short trips because I can charge it with the 115 volt power port in my truck and the supplied ac charger. I am planning to do longer trips so decided to get the solar panel since there is the option to charge via solar but I have not used it yet.

I work law enforcement and am often out the southwest desert for way more hours than anticipated, I bought a heating luch box for my truck, but it would blow fuses when plugged in to the factory 12 volt outlet. Since I had the Jackery I thought it I would try it out for this purpose also. It works flawlessly. The heater will heat up to 300 degrees and actually cook food rather than just heat it up. Using the Jackery 500 the charge will drop to about 15% for an hour of cooking. Way better than I expected! I thought that the draw might be too much for the unit, but I was lpeasantly surprised. Really opens up the options for food out in the field. I might need to purchase a new Jackery 1000 in the future to use hunting and overlanding and keep my current Jackery 500 for use in my work truck.

I highly recommend the Jackery line of products they are really well built and the work better than expected. I will be a forever customer.

The Jackery power station is portable and has lasting power that ran my CPap for two full nights and charged multiple phones and had plenty of power left. Well worth the investment.

I’ve had this Jackery 500 for 2 years now and I’m pleased with how reliable this power bank has been. My area always loses power and this has come through several times with the covid WFH situation. It’s been a game changer when camping in 30 degree weather paired with a low wattage personal heater. This power bank has seen many different uses. From powering my home office workstation, camping, emergencies, and cooking with my Asmoke pellet grills, it’s been through a lot.

I’ve attached a picture of this unit powering my pellet grill. 5 stars for providing power to the best smoked pork butt I’ve ever cooked. As seen in the picture, 78% remaining capacity. That was the next day folks. I started the smoking at 1AM and picture was taken around noon cooking through the stall (171 deg). Grill maintained around 225 temp. I don’t have to worry about my power grid going down while smoking meats overnight and cooking past 14 hours. This was the first pork butt I’ve cooked without cheating by wrapping it in butcher paper or foil. It turned out fantastic!

# Pros
– Reliable (when fully charged). Provides power without any hiccups for over a dozen hours
– Light weight compared to lead acid. Capacity is impressive considering it’s size and weight
– 2 years later and still working great
– Solar charging works as advertised (wish mine had MPPT!)
– Used exclusively with my pellet grills (Asmoke AS300 & AS500) and it performs

# Cons
– None.

The advertising and marketing claims are honest and hold true. Most battery manufacturers always overpromise and underdeliver. The only regret I have is that I should have waited for the MPPT version!

First of all.. fedex tracking showed it was delivered, but we did not receive it. Filed complaint with fedex, they created a case and said they would investigate. Called jackery customer service… they said they will work with fedex on the missing package, but in the meantime said they would send a new package. Got it four days later. There are alot of negative reviews, but that’s good customer service.

Was at about 50% charge out of the box. Charged from wall outlet to 100% in about 6 hours, then unplugged it. 12 hours later, it was still at 100%. Ran overnight (8 hrs) with cpap and phone plugged in, had 91% remaining. This is our main purpose for this device… running cpap and phone charging during power outage.

Notes: the cpap is a Resmed AirMini, plugged in via the Resmed AirMini DC converter. There are several youtube videos explaining why to use dc converter, and there are cheaper converters, but I chose the name brand one, got it at cpap.com.

Everything worked as expected, i plan to run with this once a week and recharge, just to keep an eye on it and make sure it holds a charge for emergencies.

I estimate I could run all 3 for 5 1\2 to 6 hours total. If I’d used a smaller tv I expect I’d get over 7 hours. Very very happy with this device. Worked how I wanted when I wanted.

I was wondering if it would run my milk frother for my coffee (I know…spoiled, but creamer doesn’t work for me) and it works perfectly! Our next purchase will be the solar panel to charge it as a another option.

I have a Phillips dream station 2, when using it the first night with humidifier turned off only used 30% of the battery life. Used it again one more night and still had 50% life left. Also was able to air my mattress up and de-inflate it as well.

We got our 500 primarily for camping trips. We are tent campers and prefer the primitive spots. With our jackery 500 we are able to charge our phones, plug in our coffee pot, and let the kids watch a movie in the tent. The solar charger is easy enough on sunny days in spots without trees. Most recently we were in a very cloudy area on a rainy weekend. The jackery kept power for the 3 days we were camping with the minimal solar power we were able to find during the day.

The Jackery 500 Power Pack and Jackery SolarSaga 100 W Solar Panel charged two laptops, two kindles, two phones, two Apple Watches, and an iPad all week long and seldom dipped below 50%, even though it was cloudy half the time. Rugged, easy to set up and move with the sun, easy to use, efficient, and reliable. This unit has worked really well for me to have the power I need on camping trips to charge up phones and to power some lights. I’ve been using some 100w solar panels to keep it charged and the whole system works flawlessly. I especially like the fact that I can use the power station while charging it with the solar panels. I believe some competitors’ products don’t allow simultaneous charging/discharging. The display on this power station gives straightforward status of what’s going on. It seems rugged and durable, but I suppose only time will tell with that. It’s a comfort to know that we have a source of some power in the event that a storm or other event knocks out the electricity to our home. The only time I’ve run into any kind of limitation with this power station was when I tried to plug in a large reciprocating saw to cut some metal posts in a remote location. The amperage draw exceeded what the power station could provide. But I was impressed even in that situation that the power station had the smarts to shut itself off after a couple seconds rather than me breaking something because I hadn’t first confirmed that the tool would draw too many amps. All-in-all I’ve been very pleased with the purchase.

After fussing with keeping a practically immovable 60lb deep cycle battery charged for use during hurricane season, I finally caved and bought the Jackery. Sometimes it’s worth investing more for peace of mind, and that’s definitely the case here. It’s a relief knowing I have a reliable power source for our storm shelter during a hurricane.

My Jackery arrived on Aug 11. That evening I topped it up from a 41% charge to 100%, then disconnected it, and it’s held a full charge ever since. I love that so much that occasionally I poke the button to turn on the lcd screen just to so I can do a little jig when that 100% lights up. lol

I wanted to wait till I got to actually use it to offer a fuller review, but today I received an unexpected package from Jackery in the mail: a backpack which might be for holding solar panels? I didn’t get any panels and I don’t see the backpack included with the Jackery so I’m not sure why this was sent to me…not that I’m complaining. I only hope they won’t want it back because I’ll never get it folded down and zippered up into a neat little pouch again! 😉

Pros:
It’s compact and easy to lift at only 13 lbs
Doesn’t need to be constantly drip-charged
Much easier and safer for my storm prep powering needs than a deep cycle battery (live and learn)
Holds a charge like a boss
The addition of a powerful built-in led light gives me another lighting option when the power goes out.

Cons: not one, at least not yet. If I run into any I’ll update this review.

I purchased my original Jackery Explorer 500 in March of 2021 because we travel quite a bit. I took it out of the box and we hit the road. It worked fabulously for our needs. Our teenager was able to use the laptop and video games while we drove. Also kept lights on and charged fans and coolers for a week at a time on the go. Only after having in nearly a month did we figure out the USB ports were not functioning. Then the teenager tells me that she noticed it straight out of the box but didn’t say anything!!! Grr! Teenagers! I contacted Jackery support by email and through correspondence with them, I was able to send them the info about the issue and even a video so they could see the issue. They had no trouble making good on the warranty! I shipped the one I had back to them expecting them to just switch out the ports, but they just sent me a new one instead. The first thing I did after taking it out of the box was to try all of the ports myself and make sure they were all working! I am in LOVE with my Jackery and will be adding the optional 100W solar saga solar panel to the van this year! This is a great investment and I strongly recommend the product and the company!

The first thing I did after taking it out of the box was to try all of the ports myself and make sure they were all working! I am in LOVE with my Jackery and will be adding the optional 100W solar saga solar panel to the van this year! This is a great investment and I strongly recommend the product and the company!

I have used this for 3 nights. The 1st night that I tested it, I used the A/C plug on my CPAP with my humidifier and WiFi on. It used about 15% power.
The 2nd and 3rd nights, I used it with the D/C plug, both nights with humidifier and WiFi on. Each night it used 10% power.
I plugged it in to recharge and it is back at 100% waiting for our next camping trip or power outage.
I wish we bought this sooner.

New to the solar generator life, but this was quite handy for charging phones, pads, and running radios. It hardly used any of the stored power. Recharged with the Jackery solar panel ,sold separately, but both are easily stored away and much lighter than using a heavy battery. Could of used a smaller one, but do research. Alot of videos on YouTube for what different brands and sizes can run. Overall very happy with purchase. PS. I looked at IT several times and a 80 dollar discount came up. How cleaver Amazon is LOL.

I took this to use in a camper cabin (no electricity) in Grand Tetons National Park (Flagg Ranch). I used it to power a small lamp, phone charger, and a camera battery charger. I started at 100% power at the start and finished with 84% at the end of 9 nights. Very impressed with efficiency. I am also able to run my laptop, plus an external monitor and phone charger for several hours with very little reduction in % power left. (Note: I liked it so much, I went ahead and bought the 100W solar charger).

Minor quibbles aside for lack of non-proprietary charging ports, it works with most portable solar panels and charges fairly quickly with the included power supply. Power outages are more fun when you have one of more of these.

I purchased this mainly for power outages and picnics with my wife. We have a coupe power outages a year and I have a Honda 2200i that works great with a reliance through the wall transfer switch. I hook it up outside and I have six active plugs inside. I have the propane conversion kit on it. The Jackery is a far superior product than the other units I have seen owned by friends. You can just tell. Charging is dead quiet and I can run my 43 inch LCD TV, Tivo, My Lamp, for about 6 hours. If I hook up my router and fish tank, its about 4 hours. This is perfect for power outages as they usually last just a couple of hours, max. I have a heater buddy to heat my house in the winter so I’m good to go. The Bluetti is super loud charging, but has more charing cycles from dead to fully charged. But, with 500 charge cycles on the Jackery before the batteries will only to charge to 80 is not a big deal. At three outages a year, that’s 13 years. By that time, it will be time for a new one or I’ll be dead. LOL. But remember, a charge cycle is from 0 to 100%. So, if you use it to 50%, you can charge it 1000 times before the battery goes to 80%. Thats 26 years. A couple of other I tried were just cheap junk. And dangerous. You many get more features with the others, Like USB c outlets. Just spend 6 dollars and by two of them off amazon and plug them in. Easy. Also, you only get one AC plug with the 500. Big deal, just by a 1800 Watt 6 dollar power strip with 4 or 5 outlets. Get a Jackery. You get what you pay for.

We just ordered a second Jackery for boondocking with our camper. We can run a CPAP all weekend and recharge it with a suitcase solar panel. The only issue was that the fan is a bit loud, but we moved it to the outside galley on our camper and ran a power cord to it. Now we don’t hear it at all and it doesn’t get wet. It takes a good while to charge it up, so having a second 500 will be helpful. It’s heavier than I thought it would be, but not too bad.

Since then it has served us perfectly during outages keeping all of our devices charged and ready.

I am just now coming back to write this review because of a recent outage that had me pulling this out of storage in our closet. Fast delivery by company. This is 3rd Jackery we bought, like these so much. Holds charge a long time even in storage; we check quick Display info on first o each month…. The size 300 has two outlets for electric plugs so we could put a 7w nightlight in one. It also has cover to insert into cigarette lighter plug when not in use. VERY annoying: For some odd reason, the bigger 500 does NOT have these. But a small surge protector gives more outlets. REMEMBER: Charge thru wall socket (or in vehicle) — not a power strip.

We keep losing power and working from home and having two guinea pigs was stressing me out not having a way to do basic things.
I did my research and made sure I purchased one with enough power to do the things I anticipated needing to do in a power outage: run the internet, charge our laptops/phones, lighting, and use a heating blanket or fan depending on the weather conditions. I also wanted to be able to recharge it in the event of long outages. We elected not to get the solar panels since we live in the woods and it comes with a way to charge it with our cars so that is added security.
Since making this purchase we have lost power a couple times. Each time was for about an hour during working hours and we ran our internet flawlessly! The power came back up before needing to charge the laptops but having used barely any of its juice I have no doubt we would have been fine for several more hours even with using it for other things.
It is nice to know that we have the ability to keep going with our day to day things until power comes back on!

We take this battery charger camping where we power our computers, lights and phones. Most of us no longer have a house phone or even cable, so if power goes out our cell is the only connection to the outside. With this you can charge your phone multiple times, a tablet, a laptop, even connect a radio or TV with digital antena and remain connected!!!! Homeland security should be promoting everyone to have this or similar to have more resilience to disasters!!

I do not usually write reviews for products I purchase. This Jackery 500 was purchased about 16 months ago, charged & put on a shelf. Our power went out around 1:30 p.m. leaving us with our mobile phones and flashlights. A tree fell on the power, cable TV & phone lines that service our community. It got dark about 4:30 & our phone batteries were nearly depleted. I pulled the Jackery out expecting to find the battery at 0% charge but it indicated 100%. We had several items to charge so a extension cord put in use to attach the chargers. We were able to charge all of our items and had 85% power left when the power came on at 10:30 p.m. that night. I figure we could keep our mobile phones and flashlights & other doohickeys charged for 3 days with this unit. I ordered another Jackery 500 the day after this power outage. These units are pricy but the Jackery 500 made a unpleasant situation bearable. I also rate the quality of this product very high. We do have backup heat and a small gas powered electric generator for power outages lasting over a day but the generator is inconvenient to put on line.

Cpap users: I bought this to use on camping trips to power my cpap machine. I love the outdoors however, wearing a cpap has limited me from hiking to places to camp where there is no power until now! This unit is a bit heavy to take on camping/backpacking trips but you got to do what you go to do. My cpap is dc, so I bought a dc plug for it. I used it 5 nights with the heater/water tray set to 1 and also charged my phone each night. Each night I ran it on average for 9 hours. Summary of power usage each day for the pack. Day 1: 100%-88%, day 2: 88%-66%, day 3: 66%-48%, day 4: 48%-32%, day 5: 32%-17%. I did not have to recharge the unit at all during the 5 days. I also ran a usb light for about 20 minutes each night.

I grew up in a land-locked state but moved to the Gulf Coast almost two years ago. I thought I had everything I needed in case I lost power for a few days – battery-powered fans and lanterns, plenty of batteries, bottled water, two power banks that could handle my phone and tablet, nonperishable food that doesn’t need to be cooked…and then when I actually lost power overnight a few months ago, I discovered my sleep apnea has gotten SO BAD that I almost die the minute I fall asleep without my CPAP on. Seriously, any time I dozed off, I almost instantly woke up coughing and gasping for breath. I had wanted to wait a while before shelling out $500 for this thing, but I need to be able to sleep without dying the next time we lose power.

Anyway, I plugged this thing into the wall to charge it, then plugged in my CPAP that night and tested it out. The first night, I turned off the heat and humidity so it would use less power. If I remember correctly, I slept about 6 hours that night and the Jackery still had almost 75% of its power left. I charged it again and used my CPAP on its normal settings the next night. I slept about 8 hours and the Jackery had about 25% of it power left. I figure if I turn off the heat and humidity and set an alarm for 5 or 6 hours, I should be able to get about 4 or 5 nights of sleep if we ever have an extended power outage. Eventually, I want to buy the solar panels that go with this thing so I can at least partially recharge it, but I need to wait a bit before I spend that kind of money – and hurricane season is now over for the next 5 1/2 months.

Long story short – if you use a CPAP, you NEED this Jackery in case you ever lose power! You might be able to get 1-2 nights of sleep on one of the cheaper/lower-powered models, but if you can afford it, buy yourself peace of mind with this one.

I bought this after experiencing a few discount versions that friends have.

Don’t worry about the single duplex outlet. One of the discount versions had 2 and the other 3 plugs, but both owners only used one because the typical use case is a multi-plug extension cord anyway to get the outlets up where chargers and other items can use them. I suggest you spend an extra $15 and get a couple of adapters for the small DC outlets and a high quality 12V adapter for USB-C rather than using a wall wart adapter. The dc-dc conversion is more efficient than any built in inverter (85%).

I also bought the Jackery 100W panel. My experience is that on a late winter day with high stratus clouds it puts out about 76W continuous. It still charged faster than the spec.

The battery life is unbelievable! I tested it out to see what I could get out of it and what to expect for camping trips that would last several days and here are the results: running a 2.5 hr movie (007 quantum of solace) off of my projector which was plugged into the station, recharging the laptop from 20% to 100%, 7 full nights of phone charging (2 phones), charging my garmin fenix once and charging my AirPods twice I still had over 30% battery life. This thing is incredible and does not disappoint. It doesn’t have the sleek look of the goal zero power stations but for the price and the quality this is well worth every penny.

I bought this 500w Jackery as a backup to run the fan on my fireplace insert in case we lose power in winter for several days. The Jackery easily powers the fan while we burn wood in the fire box. It also can power out WIFI and several other low watt devices including LED lights. If you don’t need every creature comfort to get thru a power outage, the Jackery power sources are great. Could also be a great addition on a camping trip. Can be recharged in car on a long trip.

Laptop use alone, goes for about 12-14 hours from a full charge to empty. Cellphone alone, about a week or ten days.
Recharging the unit itself, it takes about one hour for every 12%, so about 8 hours to charge it from 0% to 100%. That’s an important number for people who are on the move from campground to campground. You can charge it in the car, but that’s a lot of driving. I look for campgrounds where I can charge it, for example, in a communal bathroom overnight. Make sure you have a lock and chain to secure it, coz it’s a tempting target. Paying extra at a campground for power at your site can get expensive, so I’ve found the routine of charge it overnight at a bathroom to work well.
I’ve used it every day for about six months and quite honestly I don’t know how I could have traveled without it.
It’s also handy for helping out fellow campers you meet. You can let them charge their phone while you site around the campfire. Cellphones only use a few watts, and if you recharge it to full overnight, you won’t be stuck.
Don’t forget to get yourself that lock and chain. Sooner or later, you’ll find you need to leave it unattended, and someone will find it to be temptation beyond endurance.
I recommend this product.

I’m into being outdoors, a geek and live in Florida. The Jackery is made for me.

I had built a similar device a few years back into an ammo can. It worked (though it had only 2/3 of the Jackery’s battery), was very heavy (SLA batteries) and also looked like a bomb if you opened the case. Not ideal.

The Jackery is sleek, dead simple to use and understates it’s battery life. It also boosts power to the ports (DC at least). It’ll stay at voltage… Never drooping.

I am an avid camper… This will be fun. Being a Floridian I’m a wimp to the cold. Looking forward to using a heater blanket for winter camping. During the warmer months, fans!

We lost power at my house for 17 days during Irma. I absolutely hate running and maintaining gas generators. Though I won’t be able to use an AC on this (you really shouldn’t on ANY of these battery units below the KW range), it will make weathering the aftermath of a storm easier. I can charge my power tools, keep the electric cooler going, charge phones, charge laptops and run fans.

I have a DC refrigerator/freezer (32QT). This has powered it overnight holding the temp at -5F and still had plenty of juice. Best guess is that it would run for about 17 Hours as a fridge (35-36F) on ECO mode with no power input to the Jackery.

As far as power input goes: I’ve charged it from the wall completely a few times, charged it from the car (only a little to make sure it works) and hooked it up to an existing solar panel I had (bought an adapter for MC4). You have options and they work.

I do have one complaint. What is up with the completely non-standard to anything 6.5 x 1.4mm DC ports? I’m guessing it was because Goal Zero was using that at the time. Ridiculously difficult to find and get an adapter to the standard 5.5 x 2.1mm plug. I ended up having to get them shipped (probably on an actual ship as it took weeks) from China. The same company sells them on Amazon with the same slow shipping. Now that I have the adapters though, I love those ports. I have a huge amount of 12v stuff (fans, lights, water pumps, etc) I’ve been adding 5.5 x 2.1mm connectors to over the years. I can run all that stuff in tandem with the DC cooler. Link to adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BL9SK5M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

In conclusion: For me it’s near perfect. Simple enough for my kiddo to use it and he can also lug it around. Plenty of power for my needs. Quality build.

I also recommend checking out the Jackery bag if you’re in FL or any warm climate. It’s insulated and seems to work well – also holds all the cables and adapters I have.

Works as advertised. I would have given it a 5 star rating except the size of the small 12 volt outlets is not common. It was very difficult to find an adapter and once found the adapter did not work very well.

We bought the 500 but will be returning it. Our cabin doesn’t have electricity in its remote location, so we rely on gas generators. I thought this would be great to take along with us so we could just do small jobs and not have to pull out the big heavy gas generators. First time I tried to use it to run a vacuum cleaner, I found out it couldn’t do it. I messaged the company, and sure enough, a vacuum was too big for it to handle. I was very disappointed. It cost over $500 and can’t run a simple vacuum. It would be great if we just needed our phones or laptops charged, but when we head to the cabin, those things are not a top priority.

We just received this Jackery 500 “explorer 500” today. It came with about 40% power(charge.) I plugged it in to our wall outlet(house in major city in USA) to fully charge it. I used the provided (2part)AC charger.
1st. The “USER MANUEL” is little more than a slick sales brochure with scant, impertinent product information. It’s void of manufacturing ID for registration or anything else the user and purchaser needs.
2nd. The provided AC charger got so hot after less than 2 hours, I had to unplug it! The input reading of the unit was 84. The charge/ouput reading was 64 at the time of unplugging. After waiting for the provided charging unit included with the purchase to cool down, I then tried again. INSTANTLY the input reading was 85 and output reading charge was 94!! Wierd. So, I continued to charge our new Jackery 500. After an hour the charging unit once again got too hot. I unplugged it. The input reading was 85. The charge was 94%.
3rd. Meh. I will try to get resolution and will revise our review as it unfolds.
We were excited about this purchase. Also, a bit apprehensive. This is not a cheap way of getting a solar generated power source. We expect to get quality for the brand name. That’s what we’re paying for!
Perhaps the unit itself will do the price justice. We will revise this review if true. Added star. We like it. Still expensive way to accomplish battery power. We use adapter to use solar panel of different brand. Works well.

I haven’t soured on the Jackery 500 completely, but I have since used some other units (and my Jackery) extensively over the last 6 months or so and I would definitely buy something else now.

Like I said, I still like the Jackery. Its a solid little battery that is great for light duty work. It will keep your phones, tablets and even laptops going perfectly. All of them. Most people have no intention of setting up a solar farm on their camping trips and during a short-medium term power outage its still a billion times better than nothing. Good, clean output power and good capacity for its form factor. Feels durable yet extremely portable, its quiet, the input/output display is great, everything is simple and if its going to sit in your closet 90% of the time until you need it then I don’t have a lot bad to say about it. I believe your satisfaction will depend on how you intend to use it.

Because if you try to use the Jackery 500 every day you will quickly notice a few serious flaws. First of all, it is capped at just an 85 watt charge rate. That’s for AC or solar. From empty that would take 6 hours minimum to charge, but probably longer. The AC power adapter is proprietary and it has a big power brick, like a laptop. Thats annoying to carry! The DC car charger (included) does not though, so that’s good but you end up having to lug around both anyways because, again, it takes ages to charge. Speaking of proprietary, the solar connectors are also proprietary but I have seen some third party panels that use them. Still, maybe that doesn’t matter when the Jackery can’t handle more than a single 100w panel anyways?

Finally, the battery chemistry they chose seems quite energy dense, which helps make the Jackery small and light. Unfortunately, it also has poor longevity. After 500 cycles you will be down to around 80% of original capacity. Lithium iron phosphate cells are heavier but can cycle anywhere from 3000-7000 times by comparison. If you use it every day, that could be an issue for you to lose 20% of your capacity in just 1.4 years. If you only use it once per week though, those cycles should last you nearly 10 years. If you are more a monthly user, calendar aging will kill this battery long before cycling it does.

That’s my criteria. If you plan to use it less frequently than weekly then I think it could be a great unit for you. If you are planning to use this in any sort of off-grid, semi off-grid, RV/van life or otherwise very routinely then this might be one of the very worst options on the market for you.

I got this power station 500 two years ago. Wanted to use it as back up sump pump power source during the power failure. But I didn’t plug it in, the power is pretty reliable at home. So I just kept it in door, and check the display once a while to make sure it maintain high percentage of power. When I check it yesterday, it went dead, I don’t know when, sometime before yesterday. Kept charging overnight, pressed display over 10 seconds didn’t help, nothing turns on! Dead! Very disappointed that my backup power failed so quickly consider I only tested it couple times and now out of warranty an expansive junk under my table!

Update: I wrote a negative review on Jackery’s own web site, giving 2 stars. It doesn’t show up at all. They reviews only have 5 or 4 starts ones. So sad they that they can just filter out negative reviews, and misleading consumers!

Second Update: I received a little refund from Jackery customer service. They service is quick to response and helpful, there is a component in my Explorer 500 that is defect.

Although it does charge and supply power very well, it suffers from the same design flaw all of the batteries based on the Goal Zero design– the surface mounted connectors can be easily damaged in rugged situations. Plug in the charging cable or a USB accessory in a packed car or crowded tent and those connectors can break if bumped or pulled sideways. A much better design would have all of the plugs on “rat tail” connectors coming out the side of the unit– or better yet, in a secure compartment to provide strain relief on the plugged in cables.

The manual is a mess of typos, it’s wriiten as if the person’s girst language is actually english, and they couldn’t even bother to specify temperature range when it matters.
The 500 itself may or may not need you to hold down the bettery button for 8 FULL seconds (not 4 or 2) for almost anything that’s not normal. Charging to 100% from 99% takes time which is OK, but it might trigger an overcharge warning and you guessed it – 8second hold down the next time you happen to be staring at it.
The manual will not help in situations it shpuld have been written for, it’s mostly a big ad book for other products.
For this, Jackery is not safe unless you never have questions, problems, or notable changes with anything ever.

For a $300+ product, buy directly from Jackery and not Amazon to get a warranty on the product.

They work well when new, but I had 2 of them (one was a 500, and the other a 240) go bad after about 2-3 years with almost no usage. I kept them for emergency purposes only, and would take them out every 6 months or so just to “exercise” them, and make sure they were charged. But the 500 stopped working just last week, and the 240 stopped working about a month ago. The 240 went to the trash, and the 500 will likely go to the same place soon. I tried all the “resetting” options, but to no avail. I also bought another cheaper brand about the same time here on Amazon and this one is still fine.
